Fun times

I can't believe it's the end of the year already and christmas is over can you? We have been blessed this year and have been having a wonderful holiday season, today Lauren and I went to one of the local antique shops and she found a chair and ottoman for her future apartment this next year. My husband and I went to the movies tonight and saw Blind Side and loved it, Sandra Bullock plays the role of a southern wife and mom to a "t". Rachel called me earlier and they had went to eat mexican and when they got in the car Jace was chewing gum and she asked him where he got the gum he said from under the table she was so grossed out as I was but then you gotta laugh....Barb

We have had a ton of rain the last few days and have had flash flood warnings out,this morning I ran over to Rachel's apartment (she found a nice one close by and we have spent the last week moving) and the roads were very slick and flooding in low areas and they have shut down a part of the interstate.We are having our family christmas tonight and my in-laws may not be able to get here hopefully it gets better before tonight and the weather is now saying we might get a dust of snow tomorrow what crazy weather....Barb

Snow Please!

I'm dreaming of a white christmas but according to the weather channel our chance is only 3%.We rarely have a white christmas in this part of the state but every year I hope for one,I guess a girl can dream so Santa please bring me snow....Barb

We love Iron Chef America and tonight was the christmas sugar battle with Paula Deen and Cat Cora on one team and Tyler Florence and Robert Irvine on the other team. Well I so wanted to be a judge everything looked so yummy and they served a candy cane cocktail that sounds so good. I'm sure I would have been in a sugar coma afterwards ....Barb

When Life gives you lemons make lemonade

I guess it's time to bring you all up to speed on everything that's happening around here and why I'm behind on my christmas decorating and baking. Rachel is getting an annulment after being married in August I'm not going into details but I felt like he was not being honest with her and after a few months she found this out. She put her house up for sale and it sold in 4 days and she close's the 21st of December we were not expecting it to sale that fast so she and Jace are going to move in with us for a little while until she decides where to move so we have been packing up her house and trying to store and move a little bit at a time. She's embarrassed that she put herself and Jace in this position, I pray that she will seek God's will and direction for her life. So for a while we are not empty nesters....Barb

December Days

I don't have time for this

This is me the last few days thankfully it's only a cold (no fever) but it's still miserable. I ran to walmart earlier and picked up some more cold meds and cough drops and decided to swing by the Hallmark store but started coughing and left before I could buy anything. With everyone being worried about the flu I didn't want people to panic so I'm home sitting by the fire in my pajamas and taking it easy. I hope to get my christmas decorations and tree out of the attic this week-end and get the house decorated.Hope each one of you have a blessed week-end....Barb

Who's Naughty or Nice?

This was taken last year at the Arkansas Children's hospital breakfast with Santa, as you can see Jace was not about to sit on Santa's lap. He was so excited to see Santa from the other side of the room but not this close. I have always loved christmas but it's so much more fun for me to have a small child around, and a good excuse to do things I did with the girls when they were small and they kinda seem to be interested in again. Advent started sunday so I'm excited to remember the real reason for christmas and all the traditions....Barb

It's Almost Turkey Time

Can you believe it's thanksgiving week? I love thanksgiving and cooking for it I made my grocery list and shopped this afternoon. My parent's and in-laws and our girls and grandson and most of the time some of their friends that don't have anywhere to go for the holiday come to our house, some years my brother and his family also. I do the turkey and dressing, giblet gravy, sweet potato casserole and a dessert or two with everyone else bringing a dish or dessert. The turkey is in the fridge thawing and I can't wait for the smell of it cooking and listening to the Macy's day parade as I cook....Barb

Grandpa Charlie's House

When we went to Mena earlier this week we found my husband's grandparent's house, my husband had not been back there in almost 30 years. The people that bought the house from his grandparents still live there and were very kind to let me snap a few pics of the house and the brick sidewalk was still there that grandpa Charlie laid many years ago.I never got the chance to meet them since they both passed away before we were married but I feel sure they would have been happy to know their grandson was thinking about them and sharing memories....Barb

Mena, Arkansas

Mena is a small town at the base of Rich mountain that is part of the Ouachita mountains, my husbands grandparents lived there when he was younger and we found their old house and talked to the people that bought it from his grandpa Charlie and they kindly let us take a few photos which I will share tomorrow. Mena had a large tornado earlier this year April 9th,2009 that killed 3 people and injured 30 which destroyed parts of the town but, they seem to have recovered for the most part. We enjoyed walking around town and browsing at the cute shops and old buildings....Barb

History In Arkansas

This is one of the state parks in Arkansas that has beautiful scenery and a great place to get away if you crave some peace and quite. This was named after the Dutch monarch Queen Wilhelmina in 1898 a few months before she was crowned to invite railroad patrons to travel and to hope the new Queen would visit. If you enjoy hiking, reading by the cozy fire and sitting and watching a beautiful sunset you would enjoy it.The air was cool and crisp today and wonderful to be outside,you can also go online and read more about the history of the park.I hope you enjoy these photos and I'll show you some others this week of a few other places we visited,have a blessed day....Barb

For my friend K who lost her mother friday you are in my thoughts and prayers. Jace's surgery went well and I am thankful it's over I am now starting to think about getting ready for thanksgiving.I am off work this week and hope to have some pics from a few day trips later this week to share hope you all have a wonderful week....Barb

Friday

My little man is having some minor surgery tomorrow to have his adenoids removed and another tube placed in his ears, mommy and I are a little apprehensive since they have to give him sedation for about 20 minutes if you could please say a prayer for him.We are hoping this will take care of his ear infections for good....Barb

Thank You Veteran's

November 11th is Veteran's day, a day for me to thank all the men and women past and present who serve in the military to protect my freedom. I am thankful for each and every one of them and pray for their safety and remember those that have been wounded or died to protect each one of us, my husband served 24 years in the military and veterans day is a very important day for our family to stop and reflect. With the recent tragedy at Fort Hood I pray that more people will stop and remember all of our military serving here and abroad....Barb

Fall

It's been a beautiful fall week here and I have been enjoying some time outdoors, I have had some time off from work this week and have loved being outdoors. My heart goes out to the Fort Hood community today what a tragedy for those that were killed and wounded....Barb
